Context
The 15 years of Awami misrule, vote rigging, corruption, murder, injustice, and oppression had created a negative reaction in the public mind. The Awami government again started conspiring to re-establish the quota system. In 2018, despite Sheikh Hasina accepting all the demands in the face of strong protests from students, there was a volcano of hatred in her heart. That is why in 2024, after consolidating power in an opposition-less election, the Hasina government again wanted to bring back the quota. The continuous movement demanding the reform of quotas in government jobs started on July 1. This non-violent movement turned violent on July 15. Armed killers of Chhatra League, Jubo League, Shechashebok League and police, members started attacking the unarmed students and the public. After the martyrdom of Abu Sayeed in Rangpur, the movement turned into a mass movement. The quota reform movement gradually turned into a public movement. It spread across the country as a movement of anti-discrimination students and the public. In the beginning, the non-violent movement of ordinary students gradually started moving towards an anti-fascist government uprising.
Gradually, this movement was not limited to the students; it became a huge mass uprising of the people of the country. People of all castes, religions, and creeds expressed solidarity with this uprising and came out on the streets. In the face of the wrath of the agitated public, the head of the autocratic government, Sheikh Hasina, was forced to resign on August 5. But before resigning, she left behind countless evil deeds of her heinous and perverted brain. As part of this, the armed forces were unleashed on the protesters and many innocent people. Unarmed oppressed people were martyred by their bullets.
How he was martyred
On July 19, 2024, a tragic incident took place during the anti-discrimination student-public movement in the Mirpur 10 area. Sagar, who was actively participating in the student movement, became a victim of the violence of the killer police unleashed by the autocratic fascist government. When the movement started, the police used water cannons, tear gas and bullets heavily, which quickly made the situation tense.
That day, the students started a massive protest demanding the resignation of Sheikh Hasina. Sagar left his house and joined the movement. Although the protesters started the movement peacefully, the situation quickly became tense. The killer police used excessive force to disperse the protesters. Water cannons, tear gas and bullets were fired, which created panic among the students. Due to the police attack, the protesters were dispersed, and several people were injured by police bullets.
Sagar was shot in the head and arm. He was rushed to the hospital in an injured condition, where the doctors on duty declared him dead. Sagar's body was later found at the Alo Hospital. His death is marked as an important and tragic chapter in the history of the student movement.
