Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative
Md. Hossain, a resident of Betra village in Debidwar Upazila of Comilla, is a flower that withered at the tender age of just 9 years old. He was killed by police gunfire on July 20, 2024, during the anti-discrimination movement that took place on the Chittagong Road in Dhaka. Hossain was born on the morning of March 15, 2015, illuminating the lap of his mother, Maleka Begum. He grew up in the Chitagong Road area of Jatrabari Police Station in Dhaka. He was studying in the 3rd grade at Al Hera International High School. He was the eldest among two sisters and a brother. He was very talented in his studies. In his spare time, he would help his father sell pickles.
Hossain was the child of an ordinary family. His father, Md. Manik Mia, and mother, Maleka Begum, were struggling in a poverty-stricken family with their two daughters. They lived next to their grandmother's house due to not having their own house. As a child, Hossain's dreams were probably playing, spending time with friends, and growing up to be a good person through studies. But, alas, his dreams remained incomplete. His tragic death is proof of the failure of a government and social system.
I pray that Hossain's soul finds peace. And may this incident make us all more aware.
How he was martyred
On July 20th, after having lunch, he went out to play. He rushed to see a fire that had broken out in a nearby building. The previous day, on July 19th, the government forces and Awami-Chhatra League goons had carried out a horrific massacre across the country. The number of casualties across the country exceeded a hundred. A digital crackdown, curfew, and army and BGB patrols are underway across the country. Ministers and MPs are making obscene comments about those killed in the movement. In the words of the then State Minister for Information A. R. Arafat, the protesters were drug addicts. Obaidul Quader was also busy with his usual buffoonery. A tense situation prevails across the country.
Meanwhile, when her son did not return home even after evening, his mother started searching for him. During the search, she found Hossain in a photo shown on a passerby's mobile phone. Later, she went to the DMCH morgue and saw her son's body lying there. Still, lifeless. Two bullets pierced the stomach of little Hossain. Even 09-year-old child Hossain could not escape the cruelty of the terrorist killer police. His dreams have stopped. The hopes of his parents. The love of his sisters. His dreams had to be sacrificed for the lust for power. The tender life was lost. Child martyr Mohammad Hossain is wandering in Paradise as a green bird.
How is his family?
The father of child martyr Md. Hossain, Manik Mia, is a hawker by profession. He runs his family by selling pickles. Shaheed Hossain used to help his father in his studies. His income is limited. From that income, he used to meet the needs of the family and educate his children. A family in need. They used to try to meet the needs of their children by sacrificing all their hobbies and aspirations. Their beloved child, who was only in class III, lost his life to a killer police bullet.
