How He Became a Martyr
On June 5, 2024, when the court reinstated the discriminatory quota system, the student community of Bangladesh protested against it. They demanded a logical reform of the quota system from the government. This movement, which started from Dhaka University, spread all over Bangladesh. But the government, without paying any heed to it, began to play tricks with the protesters. As the movement began to gather momentum, anti-government anger gradually began to brew among the people.
On July 14, after returning from a visit to China, Sheikh Hasina, in response to a question from sycophantic journalist Prabhas Amin at a press conference, called the agitating students 'descendants of Razakars'. In protest against this, the student community burst into anger, slogans rose from various halls of DU Who are you? Who am I? Razakar Razakar. Who said that? Who said that? Autocrat Autocrat This slogan spread like wildfire on social media, and marches with this slogan were held overnight at almost every public university in the country.
That very night, Chhatra League attacked the students' march at Chittagong University. The next day, the central president of Chhatra League, Saddam, threatened to teach the students a lesson. On that day, more than 300 students were injured and received treatment in hospitals across the country due to a terrible attack by Chhatra League and Awami League terrorists across the country. The next day, on July 16, Abu Sayeed, a student of Rangpur Rokeya University, was killed by the police at a student rally. Five more people were martyred across the country. Since then, the student movement has turned into a mass movement. Finally, on August 3, the coordinators called for a one-point movement to overthrow the government.
The day was August 4, 2024. In the capital Dhaka and across the country, the Awami terrorists shot students with the police. Masum left at approximately 11 am to attend the anti-discrimination student movement program. At around 2 pm, the anti-discrimination students and the public were taking a peaceful stand on the paved road of Kotbari highway under the Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station. At around 4:15 pm, the Awami League fired on the protesters as per the orders of former MP of Sadar constituency Bahauddin Bahar and his daughter City Mayor Tahsin Bahar Suchana. Masum Mia (20) was hit by a bullet fired by the terrorists. Masum sat down on the road after being shot twice in his left leg. While injured, the Awami terrorists hacked him with sharp weapons and killed him on the spot. Many others were injured at this time.
The family members became worried as Masum did not return home in the evening. Then the family started searching. But no trace of Masum was found. After being missing for four consecutive days, on August 8, relatives identified it as Masum Mia's body after seeing a picture published on social media.
But by then, the unidentified Masum Mia had been buried as an unclaimed body. Later, on August 19, a murder case was filed mentioning the names of former MP of Sadar constituency AKM Bahauddin Bahar and his daughter City Mayor Tahsin Bahar Suchana along with 62 others in this incident. At this time, at least 400 more people were made unknown accused in the case.
