Md. Zahirul Islam was born on January 1, 1998, to his parents Shah Alam and Musheda Begum. He was born and raised in Debidwar, Comilla district. Due to poverty, he worked in the marketing of a shop to earn a living.

From the very beginning of the creation of Bangladesh, the people have been the victims of various forms of injustice, exploitation, oppression and tyranny. The freedom-loving people of this country have repeatedly stood up against such atrocities, responding to the call of the times. The movement started with the demand for reform of the quota system in government jobs on July This non-violent movement turned violent on July 15. In the movement, armed assassins of Chhatra League, Jubo League, Shechashebok League, police and RAB members started attacking the unarmed student public. After the martyrdom of Abu Sayeed in Rangpur, the movement turned into a mass movement. The quota reform movement gradually turned into a public movement. It spread across the country as a movement against discrimination by students and the general public. In the beginning, the non-violent movement of ordinary students gradually started moving towards an uprising against the fascist government. Gradually, this movement was not limited to students only; It became a huge mass uprising of the people of the country. Everyone, regardless of caste, religion, creed, expressed solidarity with this uprising and came out on the streets. Sheikh Hasina, the head of the autocratic government, was forced to resign on August 5 in the face of public outrage.
How he was martyred
The incident of Md. Zahirul Islam took place on August 4, 2024 in front of Gulistan, near Shortuli Primary School. He left home at 11 am to participate in the anti-discrimination student movement. While the movement was going on, the police and helmet force attacked. A passerby called his house and informed that a body was found in Midford Hospital. Later it was learned that Md. Zahirul Islam had a bullet in his body which entered through his hand and exited under his armpit. This confirmed his death. The incident took place in front of Gulistan, Shonguli Primary School.
