The Life and Martyrdom of Shaheed Arif Bepari
Family Condition
Shaheed Arif Bepari's family's financial condition was very bad. In a family of seven siblings, their father was absent. They had a dilapidated two-roof tin house. Arif has a son. Shaheed Arif was the sole breadwinner of the family. After his death, the family has become completely helpless. There is no one to look after his orphaned son.
How He Became a Martyr
Shaheed Arif was a struggling person. He had to constantly struggle to support himself. Sometimes he had to work as a garbage collector, and sometimes he had to work in a scrap shop. But even then, he was not spared. The police force, under the orders of the autocratic government, opened fire. Arif Bepari was martyred after being injured by those bullets.
July 2024 was a bloody month in the history of Bangladesh. The autocratic government used various heinous methods to cling to power. Protesting students were indiscriminately shot and killed. People were intimidated through disappearances, murders, torture, arrests, etc. Train communication across the country was stopped. A digital blackout was carried out by shutting down the internet. Even after that, when the movement could not be suppressed, a complete shutdown was imposed across the country, restricting the movement of the general public.
On July 20, 2024, the public broke the curfew imposed by the government and took to the streets. Clashes between students and the public and the police took place in various parts of the country. On one side were members of various government forces equipped with modern weapons, and on the other side were unarmed people. On this day, Tongi Board Bazar was the main center of the movement. When the general public took to the streets in a procession, the police blocked them there. At one point, the police, RAB, and BGB fired tear gas, grenades, bombs, bullets, and pellet guns. Everyone started running around in the indiscriminate firing and tear gas smoke. One after another, the protesters fell to the ground after being shot. Shaheed Arif Bepari was also there at that time. Suddenly, a bullet hit his head. He immediately fell to the ground. In this way, the autocratic government snatched the life of an innocent boy like Arif. He was buried in Rarhikandi Graveyard, Chandpur.
