Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Tanvir Siddiqui was a struggling and dreamy young man. He was born on May 8, 2004, in Kalamarchhara village of Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar. Despite extreme financial hardship, he remained steadfast on his path to achieving his dreams. As the first child in his family, he carried the weight of responsibility on his shoulders, but this burden never held him back. Rather, every step he took was a pledge to free his family from economic hardship.
Tanvir's dream was to become a proud student at a university, holding the light of higher education in his hands. He wanted to reach a place where every member of his family could stand tall with dignity. Financial difficulties never deterred him from his dreams. He was waiting to begin a new chapter in his life through the HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) exams.
But cruel reality shattered all his dreams. Before the exams were even over, heeding the call of the anti-discrimination movement, he took to the streets, where he will forever be remembered for his courage and patriotism. In exchange for his sacrifice, he received the status of a martyr—the honor of a hero, which glorified all his struggles and dreams in life. Tanvir Siddiqui's life is an unforgettable example of dreams, struggle, and sacrifice.
Economic Condition
Martyr Tanvir Siddiqui and his family were like a reflection of a perpetually oppressed and marginalized family, whose every chapter of life was woven with stories of hardship, humiliation, and struggle. Tanvir's life began in that vortex of poverty and exploitation. When he was just two years old, their ancestral home was burned down due to local political conflicts. That day's fire not only burned down their house but also reduced their dreams, security, and right to a normal life to ashes. Due to the vicious politics of some influential Awami League leaders, their entire community had to leave the village. From that day on, they became homeless, and their struggle to survive began in the temporary shelter of their maternal grandparents' house. Social animosity and disregard became obstacles at every step they took. Tanvir's father, who dreamed of living with dignity, was forced to choose daily wage labor. But misfortune seemed endless—influential local leaders struck his life in such a way that no one would even hire him. Amidst this intense neglect, exploitation, and poverty, Tanvir stood as the sole support for his family.
Living in a mess in the city, Tanvir earned a limited income by tutoring alongside his studies. With every single penny of that income, he provided food for his family. In exchange for small hardships, he dreamed of bringing smiles to his family's faces, of ending their days of sorrow. But today, that lamp of dreams has been extinguished. With Tanvir's death, the family seems to have once again plunged into a helpless darkness. Their only ray of hope, that beacon of light, which had become their symbol of salvation, is no more. Tanvir's absence is not just the pain of losing a life but rather the story of a family being shattered forever, the cruel reality of a family being plunged into the darkness of life.
How He Became a Martyr
Shaheed Tanvir Siddiqui was a courageous symbol of the anti-discrimination student movement in Chittagong. His voice against the Awami misrule was unstoppable. Against the culture of murder, disappearances, corruption, and impunity, Shaheed Tanvir was one of the burning lamps of protest. Under his leadership, students were at the forefront of the movement in the Sholoshahar, Muradpur, and Bahaddarhat areas. On July 18, 2024, students moved from Bahaddarhat to New Market to hold a scheduled program. After successfully completing the program, a tragic incident occurred as the students were returning home. In the Bahaddarhat area, terrorist members of the Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, and Shramik League suddenly attacked. The sound of gunfire shattered the peace of the area. Tanvir, a brave HSC candidate and student leader, was leading from the front. He did not back down for a single moment, but suddenly a bullet shattered his body. Seriously injured, Tanvir was taken to the hospital, but they continued to be attacked there as well. This barbaric attack proves that there is no proper application of power, but rather the brutality that is going on to eliminate dissent is once again coming to the fore.
Tanvir's physical condition deteriorated before reaching Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Doctors tried their best to save him, but he died at 7 pm. The news of his death stunned the locals. Tanvir's life and death prove that the inconsistencies and discrimination in suppressing dissenting voices reveal the picture of a destructive regime. Tanvir was a symbol of the fight for justice. His death will forever remind us that to move forward on the path of truth, one has to make great sacrifices.
Grieving Locals
The entire area is stunned by Tanvir's untimely death. This brave and struggling young man was a leader of the students, unwavering in his support of justice. His sacrifice has made him a symbol of inspiration for the locals. Everyone's sympathy for his family has deepened because his departure has added a new chapter of incompleteness to their lives. The struggle and martyrdom of Shaheed Tanvir Siddiqui remind us that sacrifice is essential to fight for justice. His incomplete dreams and sacrifice will remain an eternal inspiration for future generations.
