Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

On a peaceful afternoon in 2001, Martyr Mohammad Wasim was born amidst the rural greenery. He was born into a poor family where financial hardship was a constant companion, but every member of that family had an endless store of love and sincerity in their hearts. His childhood was spent along the village's dirt paths, in a green, shady environment. This quiet village instilled in him the simplicity of childhood, the beauty of nature, and the seeds of love for people. The limitations of poverty could not block his path; rather, they strengthened him to struggle and move forward in every moment of life. Despite the economic strain in his family, Mohammad Wasim always had an indomitable will. His deep love for education and his strong desire to do something for society inspired him from childhood.
Economic Condition of the Martyr's Family
Shaheed Mohammad Wasim's family was a reflection of a fearless, struggling family. Despite hundreds of adversities, they tried to live with their heads held high. His father, Shafiul Alam, and elder brother have been abroad for many years. But Wasim never considered that path for himself. To him, being abroad was a symbol of constant uncertainty. He believed that he would build his own future while staying in his own country. His dream was not to be far away like his father but to stay by his family's side and, by working for the country, one day become a high-ranking government official.
Shafiul Alam also dreamed this dream with his son. The fatigue of life abroad had taught him how necessary it was to keep the family together. So, he decided to leave everything and return home to live permanently and spend the rest of his life with his family. But the cruelty of fate seemed to have set a trap beforehand. Shaheed Wasim's sudden death shattered Shafiul's plans.
Wasim's martyrdom seemed to snatch away all the sources of light in his family's life. The father's dream, that desire to be together with his son, was never fulfilled. The curse of living abroad seemed to be written in Wasim's blood, and his family sank into a deep void. On one hand, the untimely death of his son, and on the other hand, the suffering of a long life abroad—the weight of these two broke Shafiul's heart. The death of the dream of an only child pushed all the hopes and aspirations of the entire family into the abyss of darkness.
Neighbor's Feelings about the Martyr
Shaheed Mohammad Wasim was an extremely simple, straightforward, and kind-hearted young man. At every stage of his life, his dedication, sense of responsibility, and love for people were evident. His immense responsibility towards his family took him to a unique height. Wasim, a meritorious student of Chittagong College in his 3rd year of Honors in Sociology, was a dedicated student who wanted to do something not only for his own future but also for the people of society.
Wasim's gentle demeanor, his helpfulness towards people, and his selfless love made him dear to everyone. His philanthropic attitude and examples of compassion were spread all around. Such a talented young man was brutally murdered, which has bloodied our hearts. We demand justice for this brutal murder so that no other young life like Wasim's is cut short prematurely, and the true value of his sacrifice is established.
How did He embrace Martyrdom
Martyr Mohammad Wasim, the first martyr of the anti-discrimination student movement in Chittagong, has etched his name in a bloody chapter of history. On July 16, 2024, Chittagong's Sholoshahar station was transformed into a horrific battlefield. Terrorists from the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League, armed with weapons, had already taken position there to suppress the students' scheduled program. But against this terrorism stood an indomitable hero, Wasim. He was unarmed, but his morale was unwavering; he knew that this movement had to succeed.
In Mohammad Wasim's eyes was an indomitable dream—to build a discrimination-free Bangladesh. He had a strong resentment against Hasina's autocratic behavior and boundless corruption. He took to the streets every day, raised slogans, but never compromised with any injustice. Wasim knew that he had to fight for the rights and justice of the people of an independent country, no matter the risk. That day too, standing on the bloody chest of Sholoshahar station, Wasim was determined that no matter how much the enemies fired bullets, he would not give up an inch of ground. At 4:30 pm, when the sound of guns roared all around, surrounding the unarmed Wasim, he still did not back down. His chest was riddled with enemy bullets. He fell with his body covered in blood. Taking the injured Wasim to the hospital in that heated situation was like another war.
The horror of the gunshots and the tear gas smoke seemed to make the whole area a cloudy black sky. Even then, he was hopeful for a new, discrimination-free Bangladesh. Although he was quickly taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in a bullet-ridden condition, the doctors declared him dead. In an instant, the cloudy sky turned into a blood-red hue. Through his martyrdom, the spirit of the movement became even more intense, and people's patience against Hasina's autocratic rule broke. Wasim's fearless self-sacrifice is still etched in our hearts today. He was a talented, brave, and unwavering warrior of the anti-discrimination movement, whose dream was a Bangladesh of equality, justice, and freedom from exploitation.
Mourning of the Locals
With the death of Martyr Mohammad Wasim, the entire area seems to be mourning. He was the pride of the area; a brave son whose courage and patriotism illuminated every heart. His bravery in the student movement was a source of inspiration to his comrades. Every step he took, every note of his protest, was like a song of victory for justice. His morale and patriotism made him everyone's favorite.
His love and sense of responsibility towards his family were deep, but even greater than that love was his responsibility towards his country. His untimely departure seems to have brought deep clouds of sorrow to the hearts of the locals. The area has lost its bravest son, who, in exchange for his life, showed how difficult, how thorny the path to freedom is. Every drop of his blood is like a symbol of a new oath—that for the sake of justice, freedom, and standing on the side of what is right, one must make the ultimate sacrifice if necessary.
This invaluable self-sacrifice of Mohammad Wasim will remain a unique example of bravery and courage in the history of the Bengali nation. His death is not just a tragic event; it reminds us that those who sacrifice their lives for patriotism and justice never disappear. They live forever in the depths of our hearts, they live on the pages of history, as a flame that will ignite the light of courage and struggle from generation to generation.
