Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Shaheedul Islam was born on July 10, 1987. Due to his day laborer father's poverty, he did not have the opportunity to study much, so he jumped into the battle of life from a very young age. When he became an adult, he got a job in a shoe store and began the struggle to make his family prosperous. Amidst this struggle of life, a year ago Shaheedul got married. Although his siblings had left, he had a small, happy family with his elderly parents and wife. When his wife became pregnant, joy flooded their family. But this happiness was not long-lasting. On August 3, 2024, a police bullet took Shaheedul Islam's life, and with it, deep sorrow descended upon his family.
Financial Condition of the Martyr's Family
Martyr Shaheedul Islam lived in a small hut in a noisy slum in Baklia, Chittagong city. His family was as small as it was a mixture of sorrow and happiness. With his elderly parents and pregnant wife, he was trying to survive in a limited income, life seeming to drift along an uncertain current. The small income he earned working in a shoe store barely covered the family's daily expenses. The constant sting of poverty was a companion, but there was also the excitement of a new guest arriving in the family, which brought a glimmer of hope into their lives.
One day, a wave of joy washed over this small, happy home—Shaheedul's wife was pregnant. But that joy did not last; a tragic truth shattered all the dreams of their lives. On August 3, 2024, on a cruel day, a police bullet took Shaheedul Islam's life. With it, the family's only support was broken. A widowed wife, elderly parents—now everyone seems to be lost in the cruel grip of time, towards a dark future. Shaheedul's parents, who were supposed to find shelter in their son's shadow in the last days of their lives, are now completely alone. And his wife, whose unborn child is growing in her womb, has become an orphan even before coming into the world. The path of this child's life seems shrouded in darkness, with no certainty.
This family's impasse, this chain of poverty, has gripped them tightly, and there is no way out. Shaheedul was their only hope in life, in whose shadow of hard work and love they had lived so long. Now that shadow is gone, and only the constant rain of sorrow has come into their lives. The uncertainty of their house and food in the dirty alleys of the slum is now their daily companion. Shaheedul's family now faces only an uncertain future, where there is no way to survive without any help or support. His wife and unborn child are like a symbol of an unfinished wait, where all hope has been extinguished before birth, and his parents are like a lonely banyan tree, whose leaves have all fallen, leaving only the breath of emptiness.
Shaheed Shaheedul Islam's Dreams and Reality
The story of Shaheed Shaheedul Islam's life is a mixture of a noble dream and harsh reality. His dream was a happy and prosperous future, but reality confronted him with difficult tests. His life and sacrifice teach us that while dreaming is important, facing the harsh challenges of reality is equally important. Shaheedul Islam's struggle and sacrifice are an inspiration for us, which reminds us of the importance of maintaining a balance between dreams and reality.
Description of Martyrdom
On August 3, 2024, when the heat of the nationwide movement was at its peak, Chittagong city was also part of that turbulent situation. The discussion that day was about the brave students' protest, their demands echoing in the sky forever. Under the orders of the then government, the police were prepared to suppress the movement, and their associates were the dangerous armed Awami League cadre force.
As the day progressed, when the students were nearing the end of their program, heading towards Bahaddarhat, the police suddenly attacked. The terrified students became disorganized, especially Shaheedul Islam, who was worried about the safety of the female students. A new chapter of courage was born within him. He came forward and became an inspiration for the protection of the students. But this courage of Shaheedul was beyond the tolerance of the police and the armed members of the Chhatra League. From a short distance, they chose Shaheedul as their target with a shotgun. The bullet struck his body, and at that moment, time seemed to stop. Passersby rushed to rescue him and took him to Parkview Hospital. But his condition worsened there, and he was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
At 7:00 PM, Shaheedul Islam breathed his last. His courage and sacrifice remained like a stain in people's minds, and his name began to be uttered as a symbol of inspiration. Shaheedul Islam is still alive in our hearts today; his story of dedication and courage still inspires us. The news of his death seemed to cast a deep shadow of grief over the entire society, where he sacrificed his life while protecting those who were fighting for truth. This self-sacrifice reminds us that the fight for truth and justice is never in vain. The unique courage that was in Shaheedul Islam's life and death gives us the strength to fight again.
