Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Wakil Ahmed Shihab's life is a portrait of a courageous struggle, filled with the determination to reach unique heights by breaking through the shackles of poverty and limitations. He was born on January 27, 2005, in a poor family in Dakshin Kashimpur village of Panchgachia Union, Feni. His father, Mr. Sirajul Islam, is an expatriate who works hard abroad to support his family. His mother, Mahfuza Akter, is a housewife who takes care of all household responsibilities.
The elder of two brothers, Wakil took on the responsibilities of work, keeping the needs of his family in mind. His younger brother was studying in the eighth grade at a madrasa at the time, and Shihab's dream was to educate his brother and lead him on the path to success in life. His inspirational and responsible behavior towards his younger brother was exemplary.
Shihab, who was very humble, hardworking, and simple in nature, was loved by everyone. His respect for elders and affection for juniors established him as a role model in society. In addition to his studies, he acquired skills in mobile engineering and had plans to go abroad to improve the living standards of his family. He passed the HSC examination in 2023 from Joylaskar High School in Feni, which was a major achievement in his academic life.
But Shihab's big dreams remained incomplete. On August 4, 2024, Shihab lost his life in a violent attack by the Jubo League in Feni during the anti-discrimination student movement. His death is an irreparable loss not only for his family but also for the entire society. His sacrifice, courage, and dreams will live forever as a bright example for all of us.
How He Became a Martyr
For which student-public uprising of 2024 did Martyr Wakil Ahmed give his life? He regularly participated in the quota reform movement from the very beginning. Continuing the trend, on the 4th, he left home saying to his mother that he was going to get a haircut. Later, he went to Mohipal in Feni to join the student-public movement with his friend Masud. They took position under the Mohipal flyover. At one point, around 2 o'clock in the afternoon, the police force, Jubo League, and Chhatra League terrorists unleashed by the autocratic Awami League surrounded the students and the public from all sides. Then they started firing directly at the students and the public. Three bullets fired by Zia Uddin Bablu, president of Baligao Union Jubo League, pierced his chest. He immediately fell to the ground. The situation there at that moment was so terrible that there was no situation to immediately rescue him and take him to the hospital. For that reason, his lifeless body lay on the Mohipal Circuit House Road. At one point, locals and protesters took him to Feni General Hospital in a rickshaw. But he embraced martyrdom before reaching the hospital. His parents are now grief-stricken after losing their child. The life of a talented and hardworking student had to be given for the murderous Hasina's desire to stay in power.
Economic Condition of the Family
Martyr Wakil Ahmed's father lives abroad. He supports his family from there. Two brothers used to study with his father's limited income. The younger brother currently studies in the eighth grade at a madrasa. Although they were children of a lower middle-class family, their days were going well. However, after the death of their son, the parents are immersed in a flood of grief. The family is in no way able to bear his loss. After losing their loving and affectionate child, the parents and his brother are almost insane.
Shaheed Shihab in the Words of a Close Relative
Shihab's nephew, Farhan Badon, said that he was very humble. He never quarreled with anyone.
Shihab's younger brother, Sayem, says, "My brother was a very good-hearted person. He studied. He respected elders."
