Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative
Martyr Ifat Hasan Khondokar was born in Dhaka on August 20, 2008. His ancestral address is Alampur village, Rajganj Union, Begumganj Thana, Noakhali district. He was a 9th-grade student at Jatrabari A.K. Ideal School. His father's name was Rabiul Amin Khondokar, and his mother's name is Kamrun Nahar. The martyr's father is no more; he passed away two years ago. Currently, Martyr Ifat's family consists of his mother and two sisters.
Martyr's Economic Condition
The only able-bodied person in Martyr Ifat's family was his father, Rabiul Amin. But his father passed away two years ago. This shattered the entire family, both mentally and financially. When the shadow of a father disappears from above, one realizes how diverse and difficult life can be. After this, Ifat's mother took shelter at Ifat's maternal grandparents' house with her three children. His uncles and maternal uncles tried to provide financial assistance.
Although the family's financial foundation was shaky two years earlier, his mother had many dreams for her only son, Ifat - that he would grow up, get a good job, his mother would have no more hardship, and he would make his parents proud. But with Ifat's death, those dreams were also shattered.
It is to be noted that Ifat's elder sister, Umme Salma, is studying in the first year of honors at Dhaka University. His younger sister, Tazrian, is only four years old. Little Tazrian lost her father and brother before she could even understand anything. She may never properly know what a father's and brother's love is like.
Comments from Relatives/Neighbors
Ifat's maternal grandfather said, "Ifat was a very calm and polite child. He was his parents' beloved child. Hardworking Ifat kept himself busy with some work or other besides studying. We demand justice for the murder of our precious Ifat."
Circumstances of Martyrdom
Although Martyr Ifat was young, he understood that one should never compromise with injustice. That is why this thought gave him the courage to join the anti-discrimination movement of 2024. He used to join the movement almost every day at Kazla in Jatrabari. At that time, Jatrabari was one of the major spots of the movement. Clashes between students and police took place here almost every day.
On July 20, 2024, at three in the afternoon, the police started firing bullets at the movement. Suddenly, a bullet hit Ifat in the chest. He fell to the ground. He died. Due to the government's disconnection of internet access, this news did not reach us. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen. The martyr was buried in his ancestral home in Begumganj, Noakhali.
