Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

The role of people from all walks of life was extraordinary in freeing Bangladesh from autocracy. Shahinur Begum is one of those who sacrificed their lives so that we could liberate our motherland from the hyenas.
Birth and Identity: Shahinur Begum was born in Nalitapara village, Meghna Police Station, Comilla District. Her father was Hakim Bhuiyan and her mother was Saleha Begum. Neither of Shahinur Begum's parents are alive. Shahinur Begum, a mother of two sons and three daughters, has a husband who is bent over with illness and old age. Shahinur Begum's current address is Shani Akhra in Dhaka.
Brief Description of the Incident: 2024. A year, a history. The history of the victory of enslaved people in an independent country. The history of freeing the beloved motherland from autocracy through the hands of revolutionary youth. Bangladesh gained its second independence. The quota movement started on June 5 protesting against the reintroduction of the quota system in government recruitment. Sheikh Hasina wants to stay in power for a long time by rehabilitating her party's inefficient, corrupt, lecherous, Chhatra League through the quota system. The students and the public were angry that she had been using the country like her own property for 16 years.
As a result, the anti-discrimination student movement started throughout July under the leadership of meritorious students. As the students' movement gained momentum day by day, the oppressive government shut down mobile internet on July 17. Social media throughout the country became inactive. But the students were still continuing the movement. To completely suppress them, a curfew was imposed across the country. At that time, various activities of the movement were in full swing in Dhaka and across the country. Jatrabari area was one of the main hotspots of the movement. Many students and ordinary people were shot and killed in the Kajla area of Jatrabari. Shahinur Begum was one of them. She had gone out for a walk at eight o'clock in the morning on July 22. When the police, supported by the oppressive government, fired indiscriminately, she was shot. When the police force retreated a little while later, a passerby took her to Dhaka Medical. But even there, a scene of cruel drama was going on.
No one among the injured was being given proper treatment. To be admitted, files were being prepared with false information about the injured. Shahinur Begum's treatment was also being delayed. Due to lack of money and government obstruction, it was not possible to get treatment in a private medical facility either. She was in a coma in the ICU for a long time. After struggling with death for about a month and nine days, Shahinur Begum left the world. The restoration of Bangladesh's independence was possible in exchange for the lives of thousands of innocent people like her.
"Close the door, I'm going for a walk."
This was Shahinur Begum's last sentence.
Family Financial Situation: Shahinur Begum was born into a poor family. Growing up, she fought with poverty. She got married to Hafez Bhuiyan at a very young age. There was no touch of solvency there either. On top of that, there was her husband's illness. With time, she became a mother of five children. To save her children from the clutches of poverty, she started a vegetable business instead of depending on her husband. In the village, they have a tin house of their own, but it is on a neighbor's land. So, thinking about the welfare of her children, she moved to the busy city of Dhaka 14 years ago. For Shahinur and her family, the luxurious flats of Dhaka city were like a daydream. So, they rented a small house in the Shani Akhra area of Dhaka. The small amount of money earned from selling vegetables and the wages earned by two of her children as laborers was their only hope for survival. Shahinur Begum had been fighting to survive by protecting her children for so many years of her life. But the killer bullet of the police force, who were lackeys of the autocrat Hasina, took Shahinur's life. It took away the shelter of a loving mother.
