Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative
"A National Hero and Sacrificing Youth
How many bullets does it take to kill one person, sir?"
Martyr Tayim Bhuiyan was born on December 2, 2004, in the capital city. He was the beloved youngest child of his parents. He was different from others in his character and personal conduct. After finishing secondary school, Tayim was admitted to Adamjee Nagar MW College in 2022 for the eleventh grade. Before his martyrdom, he was a student of the twelfth grade in the business department. He had dreams of becoming very successful in life. The martyr's father is an honest officer in the Bangladesh Police, working as a Sub-Inspector. His mother is a traditional Bengali housewife, doing all the household chores herself. Tayim's two elder brothers are studying for higher education in the country and abroad.
On July 20, the government imposed a curfew during the anti-discrimination movement. The curfew was relaxed from 12 noon to 2 pm that day. At that time, Tayim and his two friends went to the Kazla area of Jatrabari together to have tea. On the way, Tayim told his friend that after finishing tea, they would go to the movement. Then, after going to the tea shop, the two started chatting with tea in hand. Kazla was turbulent then. The whole area was agitated by the intense roar of the student movement. A chase and counter-chase between the Awami terrorists and the killer police force and the students and the public began. At one point, the then Jatrabari Awami terrorists, under the instructions of Iqbal Hossain, Shamim, Tanjil Ahmed, etc. Zakir Hossain and his associates fired tear gas shells, sound grenades, rubber bullets, and shotgun pellets at the protesters.
Students were running around frantically to save their lives. Tayim and his two friends entered the Liton Tea Store and pulled the shutter down. The bottom of the shutter was half a hand open. The police pulled out everyone inside. Kader Zakir Hossain told them to run to save themselves from the bullets. Martyr Tayim ran first to save his life. Zakir shot him with a smile. The terrorists surrounded the area. No one dared to rescue him. Martyr Imam Hossain Tayim was martyred on the street without treatment. Some people forcibly tried to take him to the hospital. Zakir threatened them and said - if you have the courage, come forward. Then the human-like animals, the man-eating Zakir and his bloodthirsty Awami pet forces left from there, and the local people took the martyr's body to Dhaka Medical. The hospital worker informed the SI father about the incident from the martyr's mobile phone. After seeing the bullet in his son's body, he asked a senior officer on the mobile, "How many bullets does it take to kill one person, sir?"
Higher Education Dreams Shattered by Bullets
Martyr Tayim had dreams of higher education. He dreamt of going abroad to study in his favorite subject. Accordingly, he had prepared a visa and passport for France. But the bullets of the barbaric Hasina's nurtured traitorous goon Zakir and his group instantly shattered all the dreams of Martyr Imam Hossain Tayim. Despite having a passport and visa ready, the killer's bullet took the life of this meritorious student.
Almost Mad Mother
Martyr Tayim's father is a police officer. They live in a rented house with their family in Rasulpur area of Jatrabari, Dhaka district. After losing her martyred son, his mother is now almost mad. She says, "My son went out after eating the bread I made with my own hands. After a while, I get the news that my son has been shot. They targeted and killed him. My son used to lead from the front in the student movement every day. My son was very talented. His dream was to go abroad and study. Everyone knows who killed my son. I want them to be hanged."
"How many bullets does it take to kill a boy, sir?"
This news with the headline was published on social media during the quota movement. The news is quoted verbatim below:
Last Saturday, Raja Bagh Police Lines Sub-Inspector Moynal Hossain and his wife were rushing around different wards of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. They had a picture of their 17-year-old son Imam Hossain Tayim in their hands. Whoever they found, they showed the picture and asked, have they seen this boy anywhere? From 5 pm onwards, they searched the list of casualties for Tayim's name for the next two hours. Later, a journalist, after seeing the picture, asked Tayim's father to look for him in the morgue. He immediately ran towards the emergency department's morgue. When a person opened the door of the morgue, they entered inside. There lay Tayim's blood-soaked, bullet-ridden lifeless body. Moynal Hossain was stunned to see his son's body. His wife fell on the floor and fainted before screaming, 'Oh Allah! Who killed my son! Why did you go out without telling me?' College student Tayim left their Jatrabari house around 11 am on Friday to join the protest rally demanding quota reform. Earlier, Tayim could not be kept at home for three days despite the clashes in Jatrabari.
An hour later, someone called Tayim's parents and informed them that their son had been shot; he is being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Moynal said, "When the movement for quota reform started, my youngest son joined it. I had been telling him from the beginning not to go to the movement. I also told him not to go out during the curfew. But he did not listen to me." After finding Tayim's body in the morgue, Moynal was heard saying on the phone, "Sir, my son is dead. His chest is shattered by bullets. Sir, my son is no more."
He asked him a question, "How many bullets does it take to kill one person, sir?" Moynal had come on leave from a senior officer after being informed that his son had been shot. The Daily Star Newspaper could not confirm who was on the other end of the phone call. – (Source: The Daily Star)
