Sohag Mia was born on April 4, 2001, in Surryapur, Debidwar, Comilla. Sohag Mia is the eldest son of Md. Ali and Nasima Begum. He lost his father when he was only three years old. His mother raised Sohag Mia with great difficulty. He studied up to the tenth grade and started working to pay for his mother's operation. Sohag took a job as a supplier in a courier service.
How he was martyred
Shaheed Md. Sohag was staying in Dhaka during the movement. When his mother forbade him to go to the movement, he said - Mother, all the people of the world are giving their lives for freedom. Why should I sit at home like a selfish person?
While the curfew was going on, his mother sent him 500 taka through bKash. When he went out to withdraw the money, he fell in front of the police's indiscriminate firing. A deadly bullet pierced into his chest. He fell to the ground in an instant. When people took him to DMCH, the doctor declared him dead. Later, when his mother went to bring the body, she was harassed by the police in various ways.
How is his family
Shaheed Md. Sohag used to live with his younger brother and mother in Comilla. He used to run his family by working as a supplier in a courier service. The younger brother works in a press and earns a low salary. He had to start working at a young age to meet the cost of his mother's operation. Sohag's father died when he was 10 years old. His mother raised their two brothers alone. He built a house to live in the village, and there is a loan of 2 lakh taka for that. Nasima Begum's condition is very miserable after losing her eldest son. It has become impossible to run the family and repay the loan with the low income of the younger son. Their current financial condition is very bad. The martyr's family is living a miserable life.
"Where is my piece of liver son, who shot my Nimai Chan and killed him? Who emptied my chest? Didn't their chest tremble a bit! Someone bring my son back, I will hug him. I don't know how much pain my golden moon had in breathing, alas, what heartless person shot my innocent son, who will pay for my treatment expenses. God, how did you empty my chest and take my piece of liver son? My everything is over."
Seeing the media workers, this is how Nasima Begum, the mother of Sohag, who was shot dead in Dhaka, was crying and saying. On July 20, Sohag, 24, was shot at around 8 pm during a clash in the Gopibag area of the capital.
Mother Nasima Begum, showing the picture of her son Sohag, cried and said, "I do not have my husband with me for last 22 years, when Sohag was three years old, my husband went missing from Dhaka and never returned. We don't know if he is still alive or dead. Still, we assume that he is no longer alive. After her husband went missing, she took Sohag and one and a half year old Shahidul Islam to Dhaka and worked in people's houses to support the family. Five years ago, when I fell ill, I came to the village. Sohag stopped studying and took over the situation of the family. The younger son Shahidul studied up to the fourth grade in the madrasa. His studies were also stopped due to lack of money, he now works in a bookbinding company.
Wiping her tears, she says, Sohag used to work as a delivery man in a courier service company to pay for my treatment and support the family. He lost his job 10 to 12 days ago. Then he got a job in a new company. He came home on July 15 and submitted the documents to the new company. He was supposed to join the new job within next 4 to 5 days. But on Sunday, my son was shot in the chest.
"What will I live with now," Nasima Begum said with regret. "My son called me for the last time and said, 'Mother, there is a lot of firing in Dhaka, many people are dying' - hearing this, my heart trembled. I say, son, don't leave the room. The son says, 'No mother, we are all roommates together, we have not left. But mother, there is no food in the mess, I don't have any money either, if you can, give me 500 taka in bkash. And you take the medicine properly.' Later I sent 500 taka to my son's number. He went out in the evening to get some snacks with that money. To whom will I ask for justice for the murder of my son? Can anyone bring my son back?" Saying this, the mother starts crying.
Sohag's younger brother Shahidul Islam said, "After my brother was shot, his friends informed me on the phone. I reached Dhaka Medical at around 3 o'clock at night and saw that my brother's chest was bandaged. Seeing me, my brother said, 'Why did you come here at this hour of the night? You take care of mother.' Saying this, my brother died at 3:15 minutes at night. My brother used to run our family. Losing father and brother, we have become destitute today.
Ekhlasur Rahman Shanik, uncle of the deceased Sohag, said, "After Sohag's father went missing 22 years ago, his mother raised her children by working in various houses. When his mother fell ill, Sohag took over the cost of her treatment and the situation of the family. He was talking about a job in a new company. He was supposed to join there in a couple of days. That did not happen. The boy did not get his father's love since childhood, he grew up in poverty. A bullet put this family on the street at once.
Haji Jalal Uddin Bhuiyan, Chairman of Bhani Union Parishad, said, "The boy was not involved in any politics. He used to run the family. He died after being shot in Dhaka. This is very heartbreaking. I am keeping track of his entire family. The government will help Sohag's mother.
