Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Gournagar, a river-adjacent village in Nabinagar Upazila, not far from Brahmanbaria city. Here, Kamrul Mia was born on July 1, 1999, into a low-income family. His father is Mr. Nannu Mia and his mother is the late Shirina Begum. The father is old. He has become physically weak. There are four siblings in the martyr's family. The eldest of all, Md. Masum, has passed away. Selim is a tile mason. Hamim is a madrasa student. Josna and Takia are married. Sadia and Isha Begum are studying at Gournagar Women's Madrasa.
Kamrul completed his primary education from Gournagar Government Primary School. Then he was admitted to the local high school. Being a child of a lower middle-class family, there was always a strain in the family. The martyr Kamrul was almost ashamed to reveal the financial hardship of the family to the teachers as the school fees were almost always due. With indomitable efforts, he passed the sixth and seventh grades and reached the 8th grade. But this time the indomitable willpower did not continue. One day, the martyr's elder brother, Masum, suddenly passed away. With the sudden death of the sole breadwinner, financial hardship began in the family. A hungry life appeared.
Although he irregularly went to school for a few days, the martyr had to stop. The responsibility of the family fell on him. Leaving his beloved school, he went to Dhaka to learn furniture work. A new war began. To support the fragile family, he was appointed at a low salary in a furniture factory in Mirpur. He dreamt in his mind that after learning this work, he would go abroad and bring smiles to the faces of his family. Kamrul could not bring that smile. The killer Sheikh Hasina's police force killed him indiscriminately. The monstrous autocratic Sheikh Hasina and her party members made the family lose their child forever.
How He Became a Martyr
July 19, 2024, Friday. Shaheed Kamrul Mia's workplace was closed that day. The complete shutdown was going on for the 2nd day across the country. The previous day, Kamrul also participated in the movement with the students and the public. In the afternoon, he went to Mirpur 10 area to participate in the movement with his colleagues. Until evening, there were incidents of chase and counter-chase between the police and the Chhatra League and the protesters. It is known through various media that after evening, the character of the Awami League terrorists and the police began to change. They started firing indiscriminately at the students and the public. Many students, common people, and passers-by were shot.
One after another, the shot people were taken to the adjacent Dr. Ajmal Hospital and other hospitals. Doctors declared many of them dead. Kamrul was also shot that day in this incident. Passers-by took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The shop owner, not finding the martyr on the phone, started looking for him here and there. When they called the family, they said - 'We have not spoken to him.' Everyone became worried. After searching all possible places, the martyr's boss went to Dhaka Medical the next day to look for him. There, the boss broke down in tears after seeing Kamrul's body in the morgue. But when he wanted to take the body, there was a problem. He faced police wrath. The police and Awami League accomplices tried to hide the body. They did not allow the body to be taken to the village in any way. After much pleading, the body was handed over mentioning it as unclaimed in the death certificate. The time of death is mentioned as '4:15 pm on July 20.'

Shaheed Kamrul: An Unparalleled Character
Shaheed Kamrul was simple. He used to mingle with everyone, young and old, in the area. He used to offer prayers regularly. He used to encourage others to offer prayers.
The martyr's younger brother, Selim, says, "My brother was a very good man. He was a devout Muslim. The police killed him because he had a beard on his face.
