How Sujoy Became a Martyr
August 5, 2024. A day of great victory in Bangladesh's history. It is the day of the departure of the country's largest python that has been sitting on the nation for fifteen long years. This day was as happy as it was for the people of the country. This day was as joyous for the people of the country as it was painful. The autocrat, as a final act of desperation, fled the country on this day, killing hundreds of talented teenagers and youths like Shaheed Tanjil Mahmud Sujoy.
Sujoy used to participate in the movement every day. On this day, he formally took leave from his parents. His father did not feel very comfortable on this day, so he forbade his son from going to the movement. The conversation between the father and son at the time of departure was as follows:
Father: Tanjil, I don't think the situation in the country will be good today, son. Shouldn't you avoid going to the protest?
Tanjil: Dad, please don't stop me from going to the protest. If we lose today, our beloved country will also lose.
After sending off their son, the parents began to worry about what might happen today! After noon, news came that the autocrat Hasina had fled after resigning. The father felt a little relieved. Well, my sons have won today. If the sons win, then the fathers win. In joy, the father called his son for lunch, but the phone was found switched off. Even after repeatedly calling, when his son could not be reached, the father went out to look for him. The father frantically searched for his only son in the alleys and alleys of Bypail, Gazipur. He heard from people that the police were firing indiscriminately at the common people around. The father's forehead began to crease with worry.
Evening turned into night. The only son could not be found anywhere. Helpless, through a close relative, a police officer, he tracked the location of his son's mobile and saw that it was around Ashulia police station. Searching and searching, morning came. At the crack of dawn, he went to Ashulia police station and saw thousands of people surrounding a van. There were many dead bodies piled up on the van. Going besides, the sky fell on his head. He discovered his only son dead on the van. A burnt body. The younger sister Annie also went with her father to find her brother. It is difficult for the sister to recognize her brother's burnt face. Silent people, silent locals, silent family. What was the crime of this 19-year-old talented teenager? The police were not satisfied with shooting, why was he burnt?
What happened in Ashulia that day?
Since the fall of the Awami League government led by the autocrat Hasina, one incident after another of police brutality during the movement has been coming out. Various evidences including audio and video are being revealed. Anyone will be horrified to see and hear these incidents. One such video went viral on social media about a month after Hasina's fall. In the video, it is seen that several dead bodies are lying piled up in a van. Two policemen threw a dead body from below and threw it onto the van. The body fell on top of the other bodies on the van with a thud. This left a mark on the minds of all people at home and abroad after seeing it. Questions arise as to which area the video is from, who did such a cruel act?
When the media started investigating it, the truth came out. The video is of an alley next to Ashulia police station. On August 5, the Ashulia police station, terrified by the victory celebration of the students and the public, opened fire indiscriminately. Many people, including Shaheed Tanjil Mahmud Sujoy, died on the spot. Later, as part of the attempt to hide the bodies, the police loaded the bodies onto the van. Although they failed to hide the bodies due to the presence of the public. Later, the police set fire to the van to erase the marks of the bodies. All the leading media of the country published news about it at that time. The news links of some media are given below-

I will live as a hero, die as a martyr
After his martyrdom, a Facebook status of Tanjil Mahmud Sujoy came into widespread discussion. He posted this on his Facebook profile on the night of August 4, the day before his martyrdom. He wrote-
Allahu Akbar! It is as if Sujoy went to drink the nectar of martyrdom after declaring it. And he taught the account of the success and failure of the falsehoods by hand. Think how many such martyrs are there in this world? In the comments section of this post, one of his classmates, Sohag Rahman, wrote, 'We are proud to have been your friend. May Allah grant you paradise.'
Another person named Touhid Talukdar wrote, 'Today's independence is in your hands. Salam He Hero, from today the morning sun will rise in this Bengal saluting you. As long as Bangladesh exists, your name will be written in golden letters on the pages of history. The prayers of the freedom-loving people of the whole world are with you, you are my heavenly brother. Long live Bangladesh.' Tanjil Mahmud Sujoy's Facebook ID link-
