Md. Riton Uddin

Shahid Riton Uddin was born on March 12, 1991, in Lamchari village, Nolchira Union, Hatia Upazila, Noakhali District. To support his family, he could not continue his education very far. As the eldest son of the family, he grew up taking on the challenge of all responsibilities.
How He Became a Martyr
August 5, 2024. The historic Victory Day of Bangladesh. On this day, the 15-year autocratic rule came to an end. On the eve of Sheikh Hasina's escape, the government's armed police force opened fire on hundreds of people who had joined the "March to Dhaka" program. Riton Uddin left his house at ten o'clock that morning and participated in the "March to Dhaka" program with the students and the public.
While the student-public procession was passing the Jatrabari police station, the killer police opened direct fire on it. Along with countless ordinary people, Riton also lost his life in the shooting. Riton Uddin was also shot. His friends rescued him from the scene and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. There, the on-duty doctor gave him first aid. Due to excessive blood loss, he was given two bags of blood. Later, when his condition deteriorated, it was no longer possible to save him. The doctor declared Riton dead.

Losing Shahid Riton Uddin, his family has become very helpless. With the only earning member of the family embracing martyrdom, the family has become completely dependent on others. The young children are crying for their father. He also has a five-month-old little daughter. She has not yet understood that her father is no longer in this world. Perhaps, as she grows a little older, she will hear from people that her father embraced martyrdom in a police shooting. His 26-year-old wife, Afsana Begum, says, "What wrong did my husband do? Why was he killed? Where will I go now with these three children? I want the killers of my husband to be hanged."
