Background
In 2008, the Awami League government came to power through a sham election. Immediately upon coming to power, they created a chaotic situation in the country. By snatching the voting rights of the people through a one-sided election, they violated fundamental rights. They adopted the heinous method of suppressing the opposition by harassing ordinary people through disappearances, murders, killings, and false cases. In the name of the Digital Security Act, they curtailed the people's freedom of expression. Due to black marketing and syndicates, the excessive rise in commodity prices caused extreme suffering to the people. The country's economy was destroyed through corruption, extortion, black marketing, money laundering abroad, bank looting, enriching government officials' pockets in the name of development, drugs, smuggling, etc. The misrule continued for 16 consecutive years. The long-standing misrule created extreme anger in the public mind. After many ups and downs, the movement started in 2024. Through the 36-day long bloody movement of the July Revolution, the autocratic government was forced to flee the country. The 16-year long misrule came to an end.
On August 5, 2024, the student-public called for a Long March to Ganobhaban program. Responding to this call, ordinary people and students from all over the country set off for Dhaka. Police, RAB, BGB, Ansar, all united and indiscriminately fired on the public across the country. Hundreds of people died from bullet wounds. Thousands were injured. Seeing the situation deteriorating, Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country. When the news spread, victory processions were held across the country. Police and RAB also fired on the victory processions. Shahid Alamgir Hossain was coming towards Ganobhaban with the victory procession. The procession reached Uttara at one point. There was heavy gunfire all around at that time. Shahid Alamgir came under fire. Continuous firing was carried out from the RAB battalion in Uttara. Suddenly a bullet hit Alamgir's head. He immediately fell to the ground. No one could move forward in the face of gunfire. When the gunfire subsided a bit, people picked him up and took him to Kuwait Bangladesh Government Hospital. The doctor on duty over there declared him dead.
