Economic Condition
Saikat Chandra Dey was a struggling young man who tried to overcome the hardships of his family with his hard-earned income. It was as if every day was a new battle in the life of this family who had lost their homestead. With no arable land or any permanent assets, Saikat's small job was the family's only hope. His parents, a son and a daughter lived on that limited income, meeting the minimum necessities of life. His life was like earning and eating on a daily basis. Saikat worked day and night to bring a piece of smile on the faces of every member of his family. But the story of this struggling life ends on July 20, 2024, the day he was martyred in the anti-discrimination movement.
Saikat's death not only took away a loving member of his family, but also took away their only shelter. Darkness has descended on the family's life in his absence. The education of a son and a daughter is now almost on the verge of stopping. Gathering food for the family every day is now a big challenge. Standing in this poverty, Saikat's family is living a miserable life. Although his self-sacrifice remains immortal in our hearts, the story of his family's suffering remains a big question mark in the eyes of our society.
How He Was Martyred
On July 20, 2024, Jatrabari was a battlefield among the turbulent days of the anti-discrimination student-public movement. The entire area was turned into a hell by the police's rampage and brutal attacks. On this day, Saikat Chandra Dey, a struggling young man, was martyred. He had gone to Shanir Akhra that day to get medicine for his sick mother. Saikat's mother had been ill for a long time, and her daily medicine was very important. He went out on the street out of deep love and sense of responsibility towards his mother. But that journey became the last journey of his life.
Saikat was injured by indiscriminate police bullets that day. Instead of returning home with his mother's medicine, he returned. He sacrificed his life as a brave soldier of the anti-discrimination movement. His death not only saddened his family but the entire society. His sacrifice reminds us how high the price of freedom is, and how important the fight for justice is. Shaheed Saikat Chandra Dey will live forever in our hearts as a symbol of bravery.
