Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Parvez was born on March 15, 2003. He was the eldest son of Nabi Ulla of Minnath Haji Bari in Dhannyapur village, Chandraganj Union, Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila. Parvez was also the eldest among 3 brothers and 2 sisters. His mother's name is Fatema Begum, a housewife. Parvez's father is mentally ill. Due to this, his education ended in the fourth grade. After that, he took on various jobs in the area to support his family. He had been working with Thai glass in Mirpur for 7 years. The family's livelihood depended on his income. He participated in the anti-discrimination student and public movement in the Mirpur area with the students.
Context of Martyrdom
"Arrest at night, drama during the day," and "Reduce the drama, Pio"—such dialogues were on the lips of the protesting students and on the wall writings throughout the month of July. Sheikh Hasina's words were essentially like these dialogues. Even after committing heinous crimes, the neo-pharaoh Hasina would act as if nothing had happened. After killing BNP leader Elias Ali, she submerged his body in water and viral photos surfaced of her acting consolatory towards Elias's weeping family. The patriotic people silently endured all of Hasina's injustices. The anti-discrimination student-public movement began. Students and people from all walks of life took to the streets in this movement. According to family sources, Parvez participated in the anti-discrimination student movement that started in July from the very beginning.
Towards the end of the movement, on August 4, Parvez was shot in the head in front of Ideal High School, Mirpur 10, Dhaka, during the anti-discrimination student movement. He was critically injured in the indiscriminate shooting by the then government's party terrorists and police, aimed at stopping the movement. The present students and the public quickly took him to Dhaka Medical College in a seriously injured condition. Later, he was transferred to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital for better treatment. He underwent surgery (operation) on his head at the National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital. Parvez struggled with death on the hospital bed for 1 month and 8 days. He died there on Thursday morning, September 12. After the autopsy, he was buried at the family graveyard in his village home, Dhannyapur, Lakshmipur, at 10 am on September 13.
Economic Condition
Parvez's mentally unbalanced father is distraught after losing his only earning son. Since hearing the news of his son's death, he just stares silently at everyone. The five siblings were all dependent on Parvez's sole income. Parvez's mother, Fatema Begum, says, "My darling, my precious one, has left me. Now what will I do with my other children and their mentally unbalanced father? Only my Parvez earned. I want justice from the government for those who killed my son."
Statements from Family and Locals
Chandraganj Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Amin said, "I have received the news of Parvez's death. I immediately sent the local ward member to their house to inquire about the situation."
Mohin Uddin, Parvez's uncle, said, "Parvez was hardworking. He was the eldest among three brothers and two sisters. His father is mentally ill. Due to this, his education ended in the fourth grade. After that, he supported his family by doing various jobs in the area. He had been working with Thai glass in Mirpur for 7 years. Their livelihood depended on the money he earned. The family has become destitute with Parvez's death."
Police Statement
Kazi Golam Mostafa, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kafrul Police Station in Dhaka, said, "Parvez was shot in the left side of his head. He died while undergoing treatment. His body was autopsied at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Parvez's body was handed over to his family members. However, no one has filed a written complaint at the police station regarding his death. After receiving a complaint, an investigation will be conducted, and further legal action will be taken."
